'Hämärä tanssii' is a 2-choir-piece. All the voices are individual & equally important. My intention was to have a contrast in lightness and darkness. Not very original, but then it follows the text, which is about the one in the shadow, who sees through the mist & gets a clear vision of all the big answers that humanity has been struggling to find. He tries to get the “wise” people’s attention, but they ignore him, as being just a no-one in the shadows. He gives up. The world keep on spinning.
The text is written by the Finnish poet Pentti Saarikoski.
The piece is written in two versions:
1. Six sopranos (4 sopranos & 2 mezzo sopranos): Soloistic voices or choir
2. Mixed voices (Sopr, Mezzo, Alto, Tenor, Bar, Bass): Soloistic voices or choir

HÄMÄRÄ TANSSII
Hämärä tanssii
yksinään, puut eivät puhu hänen kanssaan
lintu
ei katso
karhu on mennyt luolaansa
Puilla on muuta tekemistä, niiden on päästävä eroon lehdistään
unen maailman kaikkeuden perustaksi

THE DARK ONE DANCES
The dark one dances
alone, the trees do not speak with him
the bird
can not see him
the bear has gone into her den
to sleep, do not intend to ever again wake up
The dark one dances
he has forgotten
not only what happened but also his memories
researched spiders, the web
is the spider's face and fingerprint
The trees have other things to do, must liberate
themselves from their leaves
The dark one dances
he thought
that the sun
each day is new
as the spider's web
He thought that the bear's sleep is the bear's task and he
thought that sleep is the fundament of the universe
he went into a cool grove
where philosophers customarily
drink wine and discuss
The dark one dances, the bear sleeps
the spider soon begins to re-weave its net
