Biography of the composer
Ylva Lund Bergner (b. 1981 in Lund, Sweden) began to study composition 2011 at Gotlands Tonsättarskola (Gotland School of Music Composition) after some years of piano studies.
She has been studying composition for four years at KMH (the Royal College of Music in Stockholm) with the teachers Pär Lindgren, William Brunson, Jesper Nordin, Fredrik Hedelin, Orjan Sandred, Lars-Erik Rosell and Lars Ekström. 2005/06 she was taking lessons with the italian composer Fabio Cifariello Ciardi at Conservatorio di Musica in Perugia, Italy (Academy of Music in Perugia).
She has been living in Copenhagen studying both the Master education and Soloist class at DKDM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music). During 2010-11 she did an exchange at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon (National Academy of Music and Dance in Lyon) with the teachers Robert Pascal and Michele Tadini.
She has cooperated with many renowned ensembles like Pärlor för Svin (the Pëarls Before Swïne Experience), the Swedish and Danish Radio Choir, the Sinfonietta SAMI, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Curious Chamber Players, Neo and Contemporànea, among others, and has been played in countries like Iceland, Sweden, Spain, Denmark, Italy, Serbia and USA.
She was the chairwoman in the organisation UNM (Young Nordic Music), working for young Nordic composers works, for four years, 2006-2010. She was festival director for the festival ’I SPEAK MUSIC’ in Gothenburg 2009.
In 2010 she got a composition award from the Danish Art Council in Denmark for the piece ’Euphorbia’.
In November 2012 she will continue her work on her chamber opera ‘The Illuminated Traces of Ligeia’ in Rome during her residency at Accademia di Danimarca.
Biography of the participants
Rei Munakata, born in Yokohama, Japan, in 1976, is right now the artistic director and the principal conductor of the Curious Chamber Players, Stockholm based contemporary music ensemble. He has led the group to numerous world premiere performances all over the world. He is also the conductor of ensemble Scenatet in Århus and Mimitabu in Göteborg. He is frequently collaborating with new music ensembles such as Gageego! Göteborg, Kammarensemble Neue Musik Berlin, SMASH Ensemble Salamanca, Esbjerg Ensemble, Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, KammarensembleN Stockholm, Ensemble Ars Nova Malmö, Ensemble Aleph Paris, and Oslo Sinfonietta.
Rei Munakata currently resides in Sweden. He is regularly invited to give workshops in conducting, composition, and orchestral technique in music colleges and schools such as Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, Cambridge University, University of Aberdeen, and Högskolan för Musik och Scen vid Göteborgs Universitet.
The Japanese-Danish conductor, Martin Nagashima Toft, has been studying with the professor Giancarlo Andretta at DKDM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music) and had his debut concert in 2010. He has received several scholarships and grants for studies abroad in Bologna and Tokyo with Claudio Abbado, Gert Albrecht and Michael Schønwandt, among others. He is selected as a scholar in music at Akademie Musiktheater heute in the period 2011-13.
Since 2006 Nagashima Toft has been working at Det Kongelige Teater (the Royal Theater in Denmark) as an assisting conductor and choirmaster in many opera productions. He has also been assisting conductor and choir master at Opera Hedeland, since 2009, and Den Jyske Opera, since 2011.
He is working as a conductor and artistic director in the chamberchoir Camerata since 2006.
Mimitabu was founded in in Gothenburg in 2009 by the composer Johan Svensson and the viola player Ida Rosén Hamrå. Mimitabu is an ensemble that want to open up to new experiences for the audience by presenting a wide spectrum of sounds and voices in surprising combinations. Mimitabu want to interpret, construct and disseminate cross-border music by engaging in the young composer and musician generation.
The butoh dancer and choreographer Frauke (artist name for Caroline Lundblad) is based in Gothenburg, but is also working internationally. She has had several guest appearances in South Africa, where she has been acclaimed as both choreographer and dancer. In 2010 and 2011, she received prices from Standard Bank Ovation Award and the Sunday Independent for her participation in the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa.
Frauke is educated at the Laban Centre in London and has been schooled in the Japanese postwar Ankoku butoh dance (dance of darkness) with many years of study in Japan and Sweden. Selected productions are: Void (2008), Undoing (2010), Asymptote (2010), Ama no gawa (2010).
Frauke has world premiere of the show 'Endangered' 4-9. May 2012 on the stage Atalante in Gothenburg.
Rasmus Schjærff Kjøller is studying accordion in the soloist class at DKDM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music) with Geir Draugsvoll. Many people think of him as a part of MYTHOS (an accordion duo), that got the first prize at the chamber music competition in the Danish Radio P2 in 2011. He has also played with Det Jyske Ensemble, Esbjerg Ensemble and the contemporary-music-ensemble Ars Nova in Malmö, Sweden.
The german soprano Helene Lang graduated from the Opera Academy at Det Kongelige Teater (the Royal Theater in Denmark) as an opera soloist. Before studying at the Opera Academy she got a diploma at DKDM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music) with Susanna Eken. In 2008 she got her debut on stage at Det Kongelige Teater (the Royal Theater in Denmark) in the prize-winning (Reumert) set-up of Richard Strauss’ opera Der Rosenkavalier under direction of Michael Schønwandt.
She won the 1st prize in the big german national music competition “Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert“.
Neel Teilmann has a degree in piano at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at DKDM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music). She made her debut from the Soloist class in February 2012 after being studying with Amalie Malling and Jens Elvekjær.
Manuel Esperilla began his music education in Spain with the pianist Estéban Sánchez and finished his Master in piano at Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Madrid (Academy of Music in Madrid) with Guillermo González. He also got an education in the Soloist class at DKDM with José Ribera. He graduated in May 2009.
Manuel Esperilla has won several piano competitions. He plays among others with Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen.
Luiza Labouriau began her Bachelor studies in violin at DKDM (the Royal Danish Academy of Music) in 2009 with the teacher Michael Malmgreen and has since then participated in many projects both at the school and outside. She has made many interesting collaborations with young composers and musicians.
